[—Just wait a second! An impromptu cart race wouldn’t be an escalation!]
Hey, hey, you’re not sorry at all! [But Aubrey’s laughing as she ducks and covers—then thinks better of it.]
[Tossing the notebook, she instead wills the cloud to split in three, and does a “watching you”-esque two-finger point towards the boys instead. Get rained on, punks >:P]
Edited (missed a VERY important detail (the “>:P”)) 2023-10-10 01:05 (UTC)
[Is the (albeit vague) look of shock on his face genuine, or teasing? It's difficult to tell without a smile, but it's the second one. He steps out of the cloud's range long enough to regroup (not without some rain on his face), but it follows him like a dog.
[He wills the cloud to grow larger, then drift back toward Aubrey again (this takes some effort - her will is strong). The rain picks up speed and volume now, threatening to drench her in seconds if she doesn't get out of the way.
[Surely Armin will also be sending his cloud her way--
[BETRAYAL. Eren's mouth drops slightly open as he's rained upon in earnest.]
[Four clouds! Two targets! Armin Arlert has become too powerful. They've taught him too much! His smirk makes him look totally unlike himself (if you ignore that he's clearly about to burst out laughing) as he sends two (count 'em: 2) clouds each in both Eren and Aubrey's directions. Copying Eren (dirty move!), he forces them all to grow as well, the rain pattering down ever harder.]
[They are making a mess of this aisle and Aubrey loves it. She could get drenched forever if it was like this. (Simply sidestepping has not occurred to her, frankly. She is drenched.)]
[Eren will get a break, juuust this round, since Armin took care of it for her; instead Aubrey rounds up Armin’s fresh duo and tries to flick them back his way. His will’s pretty strong, too, and even more focused than hers; in effect she just nudges them a few inches off-target, so instead she opens a fresh one right over his head. Will he even notice? Time will tell!]
[Eren is already plotting his revenge, allowing himself to be drenched so that he doesn't draw attention to the very large cloud he's pulling together up toward the ceiling, wide and dense enough to bring them all to ruin. He keeps his eyes trained on them, trying to make sure that he doesn't release the downpour until they're both thoroughly distracted.
[A downpour begins, complete with the sound of thunder (thankfully, no lightning). Armin's laugh is shocked, his clothes instantly soaked, and the cloud above them large enough that he'd have to run to get out of the way - and the floor has gotten very wet and slippery now; not ideal for running.]
[There’s no way there’s a dry spot in the vicinity anymore.] Oh god, we’re all gonna get electrocuted. [Aubrey’s still laughing, albeit shooting Eren a (playful!) ‘WTF, man’ look.] I mean, uh—
No! [Reaching a hand to Armin with silly gravitas.] I won’t let you drown!
[She immediately feels like she struck herself with lightning.]
[Armin holds out a hand for Aubrey; however, if she takes it, he will very gently (as in, leaving ample room for protest / defense if desired) try to pull her deeper into the cloud's downpour with him. If she doesn't react badly, he'll lean down to splash some of the water pooling on the ground up at her, grinning.]
[Armin loves swimming. He can swim. Right. They’re just playing, it’s fine.]
[There’s an off-beat hesitation before Aubrey takes Armin’s hand, and her grip’s a little tight when she does; is it just that she stunned herself or is he kind of… warm? It stops her from jerking back on some wild instinct, and thus Aubrey is pulled into the downpour.]
God, we’re never gonna dry off at this rate.... [Her laugh’s a bit subdued now, but she appreciates Armin’s grin. A lot. Aubrey leans down too, though she splashes herself quickly before returning fire. The margin’s small enough, and her aim’s for Armin’s face, so he might not notice.]
[Armin doesn't particularly notice Aubrey splashing herself; the subdued laugh, however, strikes him. He doesn't make a big deal out of it; doesn't even acknowledge it, actually, aside from a small internal note (always noting things, this one). He takes the splash and returns one at Aubrey, his own laugh going a bit subdued, if only because Armin is the type to match energies - but the water, now ankle-deep on the floor, sweeps his back foot and leaves him crashing clumsily into a nearby display. For all the spills he's taken, it's almost funny that this one leaves a gash on his arm. Whatever hook he managed to snag himself on even tore his shirt. He frowns.]
Well, that's a little embarrassing...
[Eren, apparently concerned, withdraws his cloud, leaving only the smaller, leftover ones to sprinkle rain down upon the trio. Armin glances over at him, dismissively waving his hand.]
I'm fine. C'mon.
[He doesn't think twice as his arm begins to steam. It always feels a little warmer than Eren's steam (a bit denser by the same virtue); makes the area overall feel a bit more humid, what with the rain.]
[Looks like the fun's over. Eren doesn't think twice about the steam either. It doesn't occur to him (at least, not right away) that Armin having a titan might be unsettling news for Aubrey. He's distracted by their rainstorm, and he's slipped back into some small sense of normalcy with Armin; him having the Colossal is part of that. It's just steam.]
[The second Armin slips Aubrey grabs for him; too slow. She’s barely processed the gash when his skin starts steaming; it leaves her standing with one hand frozen in railed outreach, stunned silent, as the titan-people banter.]
[Armin?!]
[Aubrey catches herself staring. Which she’s done plenty of times before, but it feels rude with Armin of all people. She steps back, more awkward than anything. What was it Eren said, about the titan power? Something about Eldians, circumstances…?
[The clouds she’s spawned dissolve, gradually.] That looked painful. [If Armin’s not in the mood to talk about it, fine; Aubrey just wants an excuse if he noticed that she’s taking note.]
[It doesn't take long at all for Armin to notice what Aubrey is noticing. Hell, the steam around his arm is so thick now, that it's making her look blurry and out of focus, even now that the rain's gone.
[A familiar mix of dread and shame. Surely, she must know about the Attack Titan at the very least, but she...must not have known about Armin's situation.
[His face falls into a frown.]
It wasn't bad, no. Not for more than a few seconds...
[He brings his eyes to meet hers. It feels...wrong. Like he's violating her just by existing in the same room.
[He's a monster...]
I hadn't told you that I possessed the power of a titan as well. I'm sorry about that.
[Two people, equally horrified by the same world; it's just that one actually comes from that world. What does that say about Eren? Plenty, really.
[He observes the interaction, saving any interjection for the time being.
[It's not like he doesn't get it. Fuck, if he doesn't get it. And Armin's never been as good at steeling himself as Eren has. It's been much harder for him to come to terms with it - being a monster, that is.]
[Aubrey’s frowning, too—out of a badly-masked concern, and she gives up trying to hide it at Armin’s response.]
Wait, no, you don’t need to be sorry. [She’s tempted to reach out, but Armin hasn’t been super receptive to that (not denying, but she hasn’t noticed him liking it), so she keeps her hands back. Her arms would be loosely folded if it didn’t feel weird with the wet fabric.] It just… surprised me.
[Aubrey's right. It's not really something that he should be apologizing for, but--
[Isn't it, though? It's not something he wants. It's something he had to eat a friend in order to obtain. It's something he's used to kill hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Shouldn't he be sorry? Shouldn't--
[Stop. Aubrey doesn't deserve this.
[He pushes himself up off the ground (carefully) and comes to stand again.]
I'm not sure what all you know about our world, you know. To surprise you with something like that - it could have been a real revelation.
[But she doesn't seem...horrified. Is that because she doesn't know enough, or because she's heard too much, and too much from Eren specifically?]
That's why I'm sorry. Just...sorry to have caught you off guard. That's all.
[Aubrey stands with. At the mention of Armin not knowing what she knows, she glances Eren’s way; it’s not as though most of what he’s told her has seemed like a monumental secret, not to mention that memory on the screen…
[Still. She’s seen more than Armin might expect. And he doesn’t need to be freaked out (surprised, caught off guard, who knows how he’d react) by any near-death stories.]
[Aubrey picks her words carefully.] Eren’s told me about the titans, and that people can turn into them… [In a token effort at casualness, she takes off her jacket and starts wringing it out. Still weird to her that the handprint didn’t stick, but it’s for the best....] You must be one who can control it.
[Pretending to examine her jacket (and thus not meeting his eyes), with this one:] I’ve been surprised by worse.
[Armin nods. He's grateful that Aubrey isn't meeting his eyes; he wouldn't be meeting hers either.]
Yes, that's right.
I inherited my titan's power...
[All at once, Armin feels...subdued. Far away. Isolated, or...maybe trapped is a better word. He's lying on a rooftop, staring up at the sky. He can't quite move--
[No. This isn't his memory...
[He lifts his head, finding Aubrey still in front of him. The scenery has changed though. On a roof, amongst a field of other rooftops. He recognizes his home town instantly.
[Shiganshina...
[Thick clouds of steam obscure anything beyond the rooftops in a dense fog.
[Armin speaks without meaning to, says words that leave him cringing:]
My comrade, Bertholdt Hoover.
[He chokes painfully on the name, like someone punched him in the gut just after saying it.]
He and Reiner Braun [Eren is nowhere to be seen.] attacked my hometown nine years ago. B-but they were our comrades too...They were our friends...
[What is he saying? What is he saying? Stop talking. Stop talking!]
[Aubrey notices the setting shift immediately. Armin sounds distant. Wait, no, not him—!
[She tries to call his name; maybe the world silences her, maybe Armin doesn’t hear, maybe she doesn’t manage that at all. The rooftops are a deja vu; during the memory-video of course Aubrey saw them, but they were hardly in focus. Likewise, she’s barely connected those dots when Armin speaks again—and he doesn’t seem to want to.]
[Aubrey kneels down by him immediately.] Armin— Armin, hey. [She moves to shake his shoulder, too, if he doesn’t flinch at the reach.] Look at me. You don’t have t— Are you being forced to talk? [Shit. Shit. Detachment gnaws at her resolve; she swings it away, for the moment.]

[Nothing new from Eren? Alright; Aubrey just assumes he’s done playing, and tosses a couple new clouds Armin’s way. Armin’s laugh is contagious.
